#ashokasays Did you know 242:

When you go to this small village Andretta, you will be wondering if you have just bumped into some European country side. And ofcourse the Italian name is sure to grab attention, but this quiet and sleepy village is also a potpourri of culture and home to several artists. Tucked away amongst the plains of Kangra valley, it is blessed with an exclusive panorama of the mountains.

Andretta is a village and an artists' colony in Himachal Pradesh. The artists' colony was established in the 1920s, when Irish theatre artiste and environmentalist, Norah Richards, shifted here from Lahore. Near Palampur in the Kangra District, with Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas as a backdrop, Andretta over the years has attracted many noted artists, theatre practitioners, painters and more recently potters. Two of the people who became associated with it early on were painters Sobha Singh and B. C. Sanyal.

Owing its fame to Norah Richards, an Irish writer and Dramatist, this Artist Village is a heritage like no other. The modern Andretta Artist Village is immensely famous for its Norah's Centre for Arts, Andretta Pottery and Craft Society, Norah's Mud House and Sir Sobha Singh Art Gallery. Keeping its legacy of art & craft and performing arts, Andretta Artist Village has affixed its position in India as a connoisseur of arts.

This small village in the Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh is a must visit for every art lover. The place is made purely for inspiration and is known to attract artists from various walks of life. The Andretta Pottery and Crafts Society is known for its miniature paintings and pottery exhibits. You can even enroll yourself in a pottery course there and try your hand at it! Try out if you want to..
