India's Answer to Madame Tussauds - Sunil Kandalloor

#ashokasays Did you know 249:

We are always wowed by seeing the wax models of greats of the world in Madame Tussads in London. Why visit London to see them, we have some of them right here, one in Kochi and another in Lonavala, Maharashtra.
India's answer to Madam Tussaud's is of course less grand in its displays, but still a great place to visit for kids, youngsters as well as elders. There is a minimal entry fee and is well worth it. The museum is well maintained, with around many statues of famous personalities. Set up in 2010, and spread across 4,000 sq feet, the museum is the brainchild of 39-year-old Sunil Kandalloor, a diploma-holder in fine arts from Kerala's Alappuzha district.

Sunil Kandalloor is a Mumbai based artist who specializes in wax sculptures. He is arguably the most well known wax sculpture artist in the country having wax museums at Lonavala in Pune, Maharashtra and Oberon Mall in Kochi, Kerala. His works include sculptors of famous personalities at state, national and international level ranging from Adolph Hitler and Mahatma Gandhi to Narendra Modi, the latest being the wax sculpture of justice V R Krishna Iyer. The museum in Lonavala houses 45 models and the one in Kochi has 36 life-sized sculptors.

The models are majorly Indian personalities at the moment. Kandalloor has got big ideas. He knows he has to 'go global' in order to reach a wider audience. He already has statues of Michael Jackson, Saddam Hussein, Nelson Mandela and Angelina Jolie at Lonavala, and is now working on Lionel Messi as well. The Indian celebrities that he's currently setting in wax include Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Manmohan Singh, Bal Thackeray and Yashwantrao Chavan. Kandalloor is also looking at various options in south Mumbai, where he wants to set up a 10,000 square foot museum that will have separate halls for politics, sports, entertainment, and other categories.
You can book your tickets here to see it when you visit Kochi or Lonavala
