Bhoramdeo Temple - Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh

#ashokasays Did you know 243:

Around 17 kms east of Kawardha (on the Raipur-Jabalpur highway) is the small village of Chairagaon. This otherwise tiny hamlet in the Maikal range, is the site of the beautiful Bhoramdeo Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva— better known as ‘Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh’ due to its resemblance to the world-renowned temples of Khajuraho.

The temples are said to be built by King Ramchandra of the Nag Dynasty between 7-11th century A.D. Amidst the charming environs of Maikal Mountains and lush green forests, Bhoramdeo Temple is engraved on the rocky stones in a beautiful Nagar style. The Shiva Linga in the temple is marvelously carved and the creative appeal of the Linga summons the visitors.

Elaborating its architecture, the temple is divided into two parts namely Ishtika, the main temple, and the completely stone-carved area. The main shrine is built in front of a calm and serene lake, upon a five feet high extensive podium including a ‘mandap’, an ‘antral’ and the ‘garbha griha’, which is called to be the main abode of God. Oriented towards the east, the Bhoramdeo Temple has three openings except for one facing towards the west. The mandap of the shrine is in square shape and has four pillars in the middle and the rest are in borders, linked with lofty roofs. There is also a half cover on each entry. Close to the access on the external walls, the statues of Lord Vishnu and his other embodiments can be seen, in addition to those of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and other deities. The major idols in the place of worship are those of Uma-Maheswar, Narsimha, Vaman, Natraj, Krishna, Kaal Bhairava, Surya, Nritya Ganesh, amongst others. The traces of ‘Ram-Katha’ are also imprinted in stones in the premises.

INCREDIBLE BHARATHA..
