Hampi:

The ruins of Hampi are a UNESCO World heritage site, popular carvings of which dates back to 14th century. The name Hampi was derived from 'Pampa' the old name for river 'Tungabadra'. The place is spread over 26 square kms. The main coin mint of Vijayanagara empire was in Hampi where gold, silver and copper coins were being minted. The Hazra Rama Temple complex has over 1000 carvings and inscriptions depicting story of Ramayana. The Virupaksha Temple rises over 120 feet.
