Laknavaram lake  and Ramappa Lake

#ashokasays Did you know 274:
The engineering knowledge our ancestors have been amazing. (I am not demeaning the today's engineers though). They had thought through the problems quite well, be it in terms of construction buildings or even lakes or be it with lakes having irrigation facilities.
Laknavaram lake  and Ramappa Lakes are examples for the the irrigation work done and is one of the engineering marvels of the Kakatiya kings in 13th Century AD (700 years ago) which was built at a excellent geographical location.
The Laknavaram lake is located at about 80 kilometres from the Warangal district headquarters (about 190kms from Hyderabad) in Govindaraopet mandal, is spread in 10,000 acres. The entire tank is spread on a saucer-like land with hills and forest which is a part of Etunagaram sanctuary surrounding it. The lake, that holds about 2.135 tmcft of water, irrigates over 3500 acres in six villages surrounding it. The sluice arranged by the Kakatiya kings is amid thick jungle at a narrow gap between natural hills is another spot worth seeing here.
A sprawling lake surrounded by a chain of beautiful green hillocks, serene waters with lush green islands dotting the expansive tank,160m hanging bridge and much more is here at the historic Laknavaram lake.
Although the lake was built in the time period of Kakatiyan Dynasty, but the greatness of its architecture can be understood from the fact that all the tanks around this place have a means to move excess waters into Ramappa Lake which is about 31 kilometers away from Laknavaram Lake.
Ramappa Lake has its water is spread over an area of more than 82 Sq.Kms with lush greenery all around. The irrigation sense of the Kakatiyan kings made them realize innovative ways of distributing waters to the surrounding areas to be used for cultivation. As a result they created a massive pit by joining mountain ranges that were in close proximity. This pit was later filled with water to form the lake. As it is located between mountains, the lake provides a beautiful view during sunset. As the sun spreads its last glow over the lake, its calm waters take on a reddish-orange hue and afford one of the most stunning vistas. The mellowed horizon, the pleasant breeze from the lake waters and the captivating view of the setting sun provides visitors with one of the most charming memories of the place.
INCREDIBLE BHARATHA
